How SecondBrain works, in three minutes

By Federico Cesarini, maker of SecondBrain · 3:14 · Watch on YouTube

Federico Cesarini, who built SecondBrain, shows the app from his phone. He double taps the back of the phone, talks, and the note lands in the right folder with the event on his calendar. Then he connects the same memory to Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, so every assistant he uses knows what he told the app.

Hey everybody, today I want to tell you what SecondBrain is and how to properly use it. Let's start with the problem, the problem that I had before. So I work as an AI engineer and everybody that knows me is aware that I had a memory problem. I was having so many ideas, so many projects, but I was not able to keep track of it. So I decided to create something that would help me to remember. That's why I built SecondBrain.

So I wanted to build my personal assistant that would help me to store all my thoughts, my calendar events and everything. But there was another problem. AI models don't have a memory. Everything that you say in a chat with ChatGPT or Claude is deleted in the next chat. It doesn't remember what you say. It's not connected to your calendar. SecondBrain fixes this problem.

SecondBrain is the first AI assistant with a persistent memory. Everything that you say to SecondBrain goes into the right folder. SecondBrain reads your notes, your thoughts, and puts them in the correct folder or subfolder. Perfectly organized so that you can find it in any other moment. Whatever you say is retrievable in a second moment just by asking to it.

So what is the easiest way to use it? I add it as a shortcut to my phone. So every time I double tap on the back of my phone, it pops up and it starts recording. So can you tell me what do I need to do today? What is the plan for today? I can ask it based on my notes anything and it remembers what I said to him yesterday or one month ago.

For example, I use it to schedule my appointments which are connected to my calendar. In the same way, I can tell him anything to remember for me. For example, if I tell him, remind me that I need to fix a bug in SecondBrain that doesn't let a user record a message longer than three minutes. It's going to save me a note in the SecondBrain folder in the bug fixing folder telling that I need to fix this bug. And I can see it inside my SecondBrain. I can see my SecondBrain grow, I can search inside my notes, I can search inside my calendar events, all in one app. So the best way to use it in simple is just to take your phone out of your pocket, double tap on the back of the phone and just speak to it.

So if you need to use it, anything that you need to remember will be saved automatically. This is another way to use it. As I told you, AI models don't have a memory. SecondBrain is not just an app, it's a shared memory layer so you can plug it in into your favorite AI model, which could be Claude, GPT, Gemini or anything. And it will give GPT, Claude or Gemini persistent memory.

To do that, you just need to download the GitHub repo in our website and connect it to your favorite AI model. After you did that, anything that you say to Claude, GPT or Gemini will be saved inside your SecondBrain. You will have one brain across all your AIs. Anything that you say to Claude will be on your phone, so you can also ask Claude or GPT to remind you of something and will be connected to your phone calendar. A lot of things are in common, we will have a desktop version soon. So now it started raining so I gotta go, but this is just the beginning, stay tuned and try it out.
